Choosing the Optimal Neighbourhood Size in Optical Flow Problems with Errors-in-Variables Modelling

چکیده
This paper brings together two research issues in optical flow estimation: the selection of the smoothing parameter and the proper treatment of the correlated noise in the partial derivatives of the image intensity. In previous work, the authors have developed an optical flow estimation method which properly treats the errors-invariables problem cause by the correlated noise in the spatiotemporal derivatives of the image intensity. This method requires the specification of a neighbourhood size to use when optical flow calculations are made. In this paper we present a data-driven method for choosing the optimal neighbourhood size.

Errors-in-variables modelling in optical flow problems
Although still in practice, the use of total least squares (TLS) in optical flow estimation is unreliable. TLS implicitly assumes that the error terms affecting the partial derivatives of the image intensities are independent. The usual methods for estimating the partial derivatives ensures that the errors are strongly correlated. Due to this correlation, an alternative method is required to tr...
متن کاملOptimal Process Adjustment under Inspection Errors Considering the Cycle Time of Production
Process adjustment, also known as process targeting, is one of the classical problems in the field of quality control and production economics. In the process adjustment problem, it is assumed that process parameters are variables and the aim is to determine these parameters such that certain economic criteria are optimally satisfied. The aim of this paper is to determine the optimal process ad...
متن کاملSolving the Paradox of Multiple IRR\'s in Engineering Economic Problems by Choosing an Optimal -cut
Until now single values of IRR are traditionally used to estimate the time value of cash flows. Since uncertainty exists in estimating cost data, the resulting decision may not be reliable. The most commonly cited drawbacks to using the internal rate of return in evaluatton of deterministic cash flow streams is the possibility of multiple conflicting internal rates of return. In this paper we p...

Accurate estimation of motion from time-varying imagery has been a popular problem in vision studies, This information can be used in segmentation, 3D motion and shape recovery, target tracking, and other problems in scene analysis and interpretation. We have presented a dynamic image model for estimating image motion from image sequences, and have shown how the solution can be obtained from a ...
متن کاملHydrothermal Optimal Power Flow Using Continuation Method
The problem of optimal economic operation of hydrothermal electric power systems is solved using powerful continuation method. While in conventional approach, fixed generation voltages are used to avoid convergence problems, in the proposed algorithm, they are treated as variables so that better solutions can be obtained. The algorithm is tested for a typical 5-bus and 17-bus New Zealand networ...
